Al & Bob’s Sports was founded in 1959 by two avid hunters and fishermen named Al Zyl and Bob Smythe. Since then we have provided the best fishing and hunting equipment available to outdoors enthusiasts in Grand Rapids and the rest of West Michigan.
Our motto ‘Sportsman serving sportsman for generations’ is just as true as ever. Merle & Scott have decades of experience in hunting, fishing, and archery. Plus, we offer customers bow & gun maintenance services as well as repair.

Stop in to see the state of the art oxygen-packed minnow tank (the only one in West Michigan) or take advantage of our spooling center to get your reels spooled up with line. Our highly skilled archery department will take care of all your archery needs – we not only sell them but we repair and provide maintenance for them as well. And if that’s not enough, our fully stocked firearms department sells both new and used firearms. And just to make sure you don’t need to make an extra trip around town, we sell hunting and fishing licenses for your conveinence.
